1. Kia Motors installs India’s fastest EV charger!

Kia Motors has installed the fastest electric vehicle charger in India. This new DC fast charger has been installed at its dealership ‘Dhingra Kia’ in Gurugram. Kia plans to install 15 such chargers in 12 Indian cities by August 2022.

The new advanced 150kW DC fast-chargers are capable of charging the Kia EV6 batteries from 10% to 80% in just 42 minutes!
Currently, the Kia EV6 takes 73 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% using a 50kW DC charger. The new charger saves a significant 31 minutes of charging time.

2. EV Charging Station a must for every new building in Noida!

Development authorities in Noida have decided not to approve any building plan until the builders make provision for electric vehicle chargers in it. A decision regarding this was taken and the ‘Building Manual, 2010’ was amended under which charging stations should occupy at least 20% of the parking area.

Ishtyaque Ahmad, GM, the Noida Authority said, “We had sent the file to the state govt and it gave its go ahead. Nowonwards, a building layout will be approved only if the developer has made arrangements for setting up electric vehicle charging infrastructure at the project.”

This rule will be applicable to all types of infrastructure projects: residential, commercial & industrial. Rajiva Singh, President, Noida Federation of Apartment Owners’ Association (NOFAA), welcomed the authority’s move.

3. CESL plans a major expansion in its EV charging network.

Convergence Energy Services Limited (CESL) is planning to expand its electric vehicle charging network both through PPP model as well as on its own. CESL has so far set up around 400 charging stations, mostly for four-wheelers and plans to reach 1000 charging points by March 2023.

The company has shortlisted 8 ‘priority’ cities for network expansion: Mumbai, Bangalore, Chennai, Delhi-NCR, Ahmedabad, Surat, Pune & Kolkata.

The company will install slow & fast chargers and focus on battery swapping as well.

CESL is a subsidiary of public sector undertaking ‘Energy Efficiency Services Limited’.

4. 330 EV charging stations to be installed in & around Hyderabad.

Hyderabad is set to get 330 EV charging stations very soon. The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation will set up 230 charging stations and the Hyderabad Metropolitan Development Authority will set up 100 stations. After a feasibility study, DC fast charging stations and slow charging stations will be set up at various locations in & around the city.

As of now, the Telangana State Renewable Energy Development Corporation (TSREDCO) is in process of setting up 14 stations on experimental basis to monitor their working and revenue generation.

5. EV sales surge in June. Tata Motors & Okinawa dominate the electric 4-wheeler & 2-wheeler market respectively.

After 2 months of sales drop, EV sales surged in the month of June. Tata Motors dominated the electric cars segment and recorded 90% of the registrations. Tata Nexon EV is still the no.1 choice for EV buyers in the country. MG Motors stood a distant 2nd in the electric car market.

In the electric two-wheeler segment, Okinawa secured the top spot followed by Ampere & Hero Electric.

In the electric three-wheeler segment, YC Electric leads the market followed by Mahindra & Saera Electric.
