Amritsar, the city in the state of Punjab, the first thing that comes to mind about this city is the Golden Temple which is also known as Harmandir Sahib. This largest and famous Gurudwara in India is the heart of this city. A glimpse of modernity can also be seen in this city, covered with the sacred sheet of history, culture, and religion. With the knowledge of Sikh Gurus and many bitter-sweet memories of the past, this city and every resident here seem to welcome every tourist. Amritsar has a rich past, both mythological and historical, in which some tales are from Ramayana and some tell stories of history. The Ram Tirath site located in the city is considered to be the ashram of Maharishi Valmiki, as well as the place where Sita, the wife of Shri Ram, gave birth to Luv and Kush. Talking about historical importance, there will hardly be anyone unaware of the painful incident in Jallianwala Bagh during independence, where unarmed Indians were fired indiscriminately. Along with these, there are many tourist places like Durgiana Temple, Gobindgarh Fort, Rambagh, Wagah Border to see in this city.
The city of Amritsar was established in the 16th century. It is believed that Guru Amardas had bought land from the Mughal ruler Akbar to build the holy tank, but after his death, Guru Ramdas completed the work of building the lake, which came to be known as "Chak Ramdas" or "Guru's chak". It was from this lake that the city of Amritsar was named "The lake of nectar". The Golden Temple is situated in the middle of this pool. Amritsar is a city which is well connected to every part of the country. Sri Guru Ram Dass Jee International Airport is located at a distance of about 11 kilometres from the city of Amritsar. Here flights are available from different cities of the country. Autos or taxis can be taken from the airport to the city. High Road taxes slow down the adoption of EVs in Punjab
Delays in electric vehicle policy development in Punjab and Haryana have made it difficult for EV sellers to sell electric vehicles, especially four-wheelers. Without exemption in taxes from the State Government, there is less incentive to buy an electric car, and hence, buyers feel hesitant to buy an EV. Punjab and Haryana impose road tariffs for new cars of 12% and 8% respectively, while states like Chandigarh and Delhi, Telangana, Tamilnadu, and Maharashtra provide much more benefits to electric vehicles owners. Manufacturers and distributors believe that road tax exemption for electric vehicles will reduce purchase costs and increase sales. Vehicles currently used in the EV range include the Tata Nexon EV, Tata Tigor, MG ZS EV, and Hyundai Kona. “High tolls on electric vehicles in Punjab and Haryana are a barrier for consumers. The government has to introduce an electric vehicle policy on the Chandigarh and Delhi routes to encourage customers. We have to do this,” insisted the CEO of MG Motor India. The company sold 1,350 electric vehicles last year. As per the MD of Hyundai, Sanjay Dahuja, the aid on EV selling and buying will help buyers to save much more on Electric vehicles as compared to traditional vehicles.
