The Tamil Nadu Electric Vehicles Policy for 2023, which includes capital subsidies for both public and private charging stations as well as battery swapping stations has been launched in Feb 2023 The strategy also emphasizes particular incentives for remanufacturing and retrofitting. The administration wants to gradually electrify the state's institutional and public fleets in order to hasten the adoption of electric cars. The aim is for 30% of the State Transport Undertakings' fleet to have electric buses by 2030. The strategy emphasizes the necessity for an agile approach with frequent updates in recognition of the industry's dynamic character. Through interventions in the supply, demand, and ecosystem segments, it solves sectoral concerns. Road tax, registration fees, and permit fees were exempt under the prior 2019 policy through December 31, 2022, but the new policy extends these exemptions by an additional three years. Additionally, until March 31, 2026, exclusive demand-side incentives will be offered for automobiles made, sold, and registered in Tamil Nadu.
